Plain English Summary

Tennessee SB0112 is a law that organizes and officially records the laws passed during the 2024 regular session of the Tennessee General Assembly. It ensures that if there are any conflicts between this new law and future laws from the 2025 session, the newer laws will take precedence. Supporters Say

Supporters of SB0112 would emphasize that this bill streamlines and clarifies Tennessee's legal framework by codifying recent laws, making them easier to access and understand for both lawmakers and the public. They might argue that it reflects a commitment to maintaining an organized and up-to-date legal code, which benefits all Tennesseans.

Critics Say

Critics of SB0112 could argue that the bill might obscure important legal precedents or nuances by repealing older laws without sufficient public discourse. They may also express concern that prioritizing newer laws could lead to confusion or unintended consequences for citizens and businesses who rely on established statutes.

The bill SB0112 primarily focuses on revising and codifying the general and public statutes of the State of Tennessee, which does not directly intersect with the personal financial interests of the sponsor, Jack Johnson. His role as Vice President of Client Relations at CIGNA Healthcare and ownership of a small business consulting firm do not present any direct conflicts with the legislative content of this bill, which is more administrative in nature rather than industry-specific. Additionally, his various investments in funds and companies do not correlate with the bill's focus on government operations and politics.

While Johnson has multiple financial interests across different sectors, including healthcare and real estate, none of these interests appear to be impacted by the codification of statutes as proposed in SB0112. The absence of direct overlaps between his personal financial interests and the bill's subject matter suggests that there is minimal risk of personal financial gain influencing the legislative process in this instance.
